Samuel Hemmans, Master Attendant, H.M. Dockyards, responsible for managing the ships in harbour and seeing to the maintenance of the ships that are laid up, appointed Master Attendant, Halifax on 28 Jan 1784, appointed Master Attendant, Sheerness on 12 Dec 1786, appointed Second Master Attendant, Plymouth on 14 Apr 1790, Master Attendant, Chatham from 27 Sep 1799 to 15 Aug 1816, owned two houses in Hammond Place, Chatham, left £16,200 nominal of Government 4% Consols to his widow, later of Croydon, Surrey, b. circa 1745, m. 17 Feb 1784 (by Vicar-General marriage licence) at St. Mary Marylebone (witnesses: James Asby and Hannah Hunt), Ann Hinton of the parish of St. Mary Marylebone. He d. 14 Jun 1819, aged 74, at Croydon and was buried at St. John the Baptist, Croydon on 22 Jun 1819 (P.C.C. will dated 31 Dec 1818 and proved 12 Jul 1819) and she d. 22 Oct 1833, aged 80, at George Street, Croydon and was buried at St. John the Baptist, Croydon on 28 Oct 1833 having had issue:
- William Hood, of Mitcham, Surrey and later of 12 Charlotte Row, Walworth, bapt 8 Nov 1788 at Sheerness, advanced £2,000 by his father in 1810 ‘to establish him in business’, m. (Vicar-General marriage licence dated 31 Jan 1812) at St. Mary, Newington, Surrey, Ann Fielder of the parish of St. Mary, Newington. He d. 9 Jan 1851, aged 64, (P.C.C. will dated 23 Mar 1833 and proved 15 Feb 1851) and she d. 17 Nov 1856 at 12 Charlotte Row (P.C.C. will dated 9 Jul 1851 and proved 29 Nov 1856) having had issue:

His aunt Mrs. Susan Hinton d. 18 Dec 1846, aged 80, at his house in Croydon.

Lieutenant Samuel Hood Hemmans, Royal Navy, latterly Emigration Agent, Greenock, Scotland, bapt 4 Aug 1792 at Stoke Damerel, Devon, entered the Royal Navy as Volunteer, First Class on 10 Jul 1806, survived the wreck of H.M.S. Boreas (22) on Hannois Rocks, Guernsey on 5 Dec 1807 when all the crew except 68 persons perished, promoted Lieutenant on 5 Feb 1813, served in H.M.S. Resolution (74), H.M.S. Pompée (74), H.M.S. Victory (100) and H.M.S. Volage (22), assisted in the conveyance of Napoleon from Fréjus to Elba in April/May 1814 in H.M.S. Undaunted (38) (on 1st May Captain Thomas Ussher wrote: ‘It has fallen to my extraordinary lot to be the gaolor of the instrument of the misery Europe has so long endured’), later served in H.M.S. Bulwark (74), fought pirates at Ras al-Khaimah (now United Arab Emirates) in Jan 1820 while serving in H.M.S. Curlew (10), finally served in H.M.S. Blanche (46) on the South American station, m. - Elizabeth Catherine Weatherall, of The Lodge, St. Mildred’s Road, St. Lawrence, Kent, b. circa 1840 in Scotland, m. 16 Jun 1874 at St. George’s, Ramsgate, Robert Nevil Bancroft, b. 16 Jan 1801, bapt 11 Feb 1801 at St. Mary’s, Manchester, son of James Bancroft and his wife Mary (née Leigh). He d. 13 Feb 1882.
Captain Samuel Edward Weatherall Hemmans, Royal Marine Light Infantry, of 24 Canterbury Road, Croydon, b. circa 1838 in Scotland, 2nd Lieutenant from 8 May 1855, Lieutenant from 14 Apr 1859, Captain from 3 Aug 1867, m. Ethel Phyllis Tuttle of Horsted Keynes, Sussex. He d. 28 Sep 1899, aged 61, at Radfield, St. Mildred’s Road, Ramsgate and she lived later at Clovelly, 64 Waddon Road, Croydon and Woodview, 25 Avondale Road, Croydon and d. 1939 having had issue:
- Edward William Weatherall, of 26 Link Lane, Wallington, Surrey, b. circa 1875 at Budleigh Salterton, Devon, bank clerk in 1901, m. Dorothy Gordon and d. 30 Oct 1941 having had issue: 1 dau.
- George Weatherall, of Ontario, Canada, b. 27 Feb 1877, m. 26 Jun 1907, Mary Hannah, dau of James Mordon Carthew and his wife Adeline Pauline (née Chisholm) and had issue: 1 son and 2 daus.
- Peter Tuttle, b. 1880 at Dorking, tailor’s clerk in 1901, supposedly drowned in Montreal Docks, Canada.
- William John Weatherall, Private, 10th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, b. 1881 at Tunbridge Wells, broker’s clerk in 1901, unmarried, died of wounds on 5 May 1916 and was buried in Doullens Communal Cemetery.
- Herbert Weatherall, b. 26 Jul 1882, bapt 6 Sep 1882 at St. John the Baptist, Croydon, d. unmarried 3 Dec 1915 of consumption.
- James Charles Weatherall, b. 1887, d. 1888.
- Ethel Louisa, b. 1873, m. Henry Lamb. He d. 1934 and she d. 1965 having had issue: 4 sons and 1 dau.

He was b. 30 Sep 1892, was mobilised with the Territorial Forces, serving in France and Belgium from 30 Dec 1914 to 15 Nov 1915, promoted Temporary Lieutenant on 16 Nov 1915, Acting Captain from 16 May 1916, returned to France and Belgium from 1 Feb 1916 to 17 May 1918, mentioned in despatches on 4 Jan 1917, 11 Dec 1917 and 20 May 1918, Captain from 1 Jan 1919, D.A.D.O.S., India from May to Dec 1919 (medal and clasp), Major from 21 Aug 1928, Lieutenant-Colonel from 24 Aug 1935, Colonel from 31 Aug 1939, Deputy Director, Ordnance Services, Middle East Command 1940-42, Director, Ordnance Services, Middle East Command 1942-43, Temporary Brigadier from 3 Feb 1943, appointed Commandant, Central Ordnance Depot, Didcot on 12 May 1947, retired from the Army on 24 Oct 1949.
