According to the will of DANIEL SMITH, there were two brothers:
- DANIEL, of whom presently.
- Rev John, B.A., Rector of Nantwich, Cheshire 1769-92, b. circa 1734, matriculated Trinity College, Oxford, aged 17, on 26 Nov 1751, B.A. from All Souls’ College in 1756, m. 1stly 21 Dec 1762 at Market Drayton, Shropshire, Jane Briscoe, widow. She was buried at Wistaston, Cheshire on 28 Dec 1770 having had issue:
- Daniel, bapt 6 Jul 1765 at Market Drayton.
- Hannah Charlotte, bapt 15 Nov 1767 at Market Drayton, m. 22 Sep 1803 at Wrensbury, Cheshire, Rev John Wilson, Vicar of Donington-in-Holland, Lincolnshire, d. 28 Apr 1809 and was buried at Donington-in-Holland having had issue.
DANIEL SMITH, innholder, of the parish of St. Oswald’s, Chester, Sheriff of Chester 1765-66, b. circa 1726, m. 21 Apr 1754 at Whitchurch, Shropshire, ANNE, bapt 7 May 1732 at Whitchurch, dau of JOHN BENSON of Whitchurch. He d. 1776 (Consistory Court of Chester will dated 6 May 1775 and proved 28 Mar 1776) having had issue:
- Richard, gentleman, of Whitchurch, bapt 19 Feb 1755 at St. Oswald’s, Chester, who d. between 1792 and 1803.
- DANIEL, of whom presently.
- Anne, bapt 31 May 1756 at St. Oswald’s, Chester, living in 1775.
- Mary, bapt 20 Apr 1758 at St. Oswald’s, Chester, m. 2 Apr 1791 at St. Oswald’s, Chester, John Knight of Dodington in the parish of Whitchurch, son of John Knight, attorney-at-law, of Dodington and his wife Mary (née Leech). He was bapt 9 May 1758 at Whitchurch, was elected Lieutenant Colonel Commandant of The Loyal Whitchurch Volunteers raised in 1803 and d. 27 Jan 1822, aged 63 (P.C.C. will dated 12 Dec 1821 and proved 6 Mar 1822). She d. 10 Feb 1832 at Cheltenham and they were both buried at Edstaston, Shropshire (see monumental inscription in Edstaston Parish Church) having had issue:
- Mary Anne, bapt 8 Feb 1792 at Whitchurch, m. Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Cox Kirby, 54th and 80th Foot, who had previously m. 2 Sep 1817 at St. Peter, Bolton-le-Moors, Lancashire, Elizabeth Maxwell. He was commissioned as Ensign in 54th Foot on 1 Mar 1800, was wounded during the landing at Alexandria in 1801, commanded a company at the battle of Waterloo and retired on half pay from 80th Foot on 25 May 1822. He d. 19 Nov 1850, aged 67, at Cheltenham and she d. 6 Jan 1861 at Derry, near Ross Carbery, Co. Cork having had issue:
- Franklin Knight, Lieutenant, 93rd Highlanders, bapt 31 Oct 1835 at Holy Trinity, Exeter, educ Cheltenham, appointed Ensign without purchase on 16 Jun 1854, d. of typhus in the Crimea on 16 Feb 1855, aged 19.
- Mary Susannah, b. 20 Jul 1830, bapt at Christ Church, Cork.
- Mary Susannah, bapt 9 May 1832 at St. Andrew's, Clifton.
- Caroline Georgina, b. circa 1840, m. 7 May 1862 at St. Luke’s, Cheltenham, Richard Charles Webb of Belmont Castle, Essex, Brockworth, Gloucestershire and later of Holt Lodge, Norfolk. He d. 1867, aged 55, in Chelsea and she d. 10 Mar 1873, aged 33, in Cheltenham having had issue.
- Emma, bapt 30 Aug 1793 at Whitchurch, m. 30 Aug 1832 at West Tanfield, Yorkshire, Edward Hughes-Chamberlain, M.A., barrister-at-law, Middle Temple, elder son of Rev Thomas Chamberlain Hughes-Chamberlain, M.A., of Wardington, Oxfordshire.
- Charlotte, of Strathfield House, Lillington, Warwickshire, bapt 12 May 1798 at Whitchurch, m. 17 May 1824 at Weston under Lizard, Staffordshire, George Hutchinson of Edstaston House, Edstaston and Tanfield Hall, near Ripon. He d.s.p. 9 May 1852, aged 55, at Old Sleningford, Yorkshire and she d. 28 Sep 1879 at Strathfield House (Will dated 26 May 1875 and proved 4 Nov 1879) and was buried next to her husband at North Stainley, Yorkshire.
- Caroline, of Norfolk Street, Park Lane, London, bapt 9 Oct 1799 at Whitchurch, d. unmarried 10 Dec 1856 at Hastings, Sussex and was buried there (P.C.C. administration dated 28 Jan 1857). See monumental inscription in Edstaston Parish Church.

DANIEL SMITH, wine merchant, of Chester and later of Mayfield, Staffordshire, Sheriff of Chester 1783-84 and Mayor of Chester 1799-80, bapt 22 Apr 1757 at St. Oswald’s, Chester, m. 21 May 1778 at St John the Baptist, Chester, SARAH, bapt 22 Oct 1756 at St John the Baptist, Chester, dau of GEORGE BINGLEY, glazier, Mayor of Chester 1794-95 (Consistory Court of Chester will dated 14 Apr 1792 and proved 31 Dec 1806) and his wife SARAH (née BUSHELL) and grand-dau of EDWARD BINGLEY, mariner, of Chester (Consistory Court of Chester will dated 7 Mar 1745/46 and proved 22 Aug 1746). He d. 1826 (P.C.C. will dated 15 Jul 1819 and proved 3 Feb 1826) having had issue (at least one dau was accidently killed in a fire at home):
- Richard Bingley, bapt 14 Feb 1782 at Holy Trinity, Chester, d. young.
- DANIEL, of whom presently.
- John Bingley, cotton broker, of 89 Old Hall Street, Liverpool, a partner in Mayfield Mill, godson of John Knight of Dodington, b. 3 May 1793, bapt 30 Dec 1794 at St. Oswald’s, Chester, d. unmarried 11 Jul 1844 (P.C.C. will dated 29 Aug 1843 and proved 8 Aug 1844).
- Sarah, bapt 17 Jun 1779 at St. Oswald’s, Chester.
- Elizabeth, b. 11 Nov 1783, bapt 7 Jul 1784 at Holy Trinity, Chester, m. 23 Jan 1805 at St. Oswald’s, Chester, John Douglas Cooper, a partner in Mayfield Mill with his brothers-in-law, son of John Cooper and his wife Susannah, dau of Archibald Douglas. - Mary Anne, b. 13 Jan 1786, bapt 12 Jul 1786 at Holy Trinity, Chester, living in 1792.
DANIEL SMITH, a partner in Mayfield Mill, lived at Mayfield Lodge and Okeover Hall, Staffordshire before moving to Heilsberg, near Dresden, Germany, later of St. Leonard’s-on-Sea, b. 22 Aug 1787, bapt 9 Feb 1789 at St. Oswald’s, Chester, m. 9 Apr 1818 at St. Oswald’s, Ashbourne, Derbyshire, HARRIETT, bapt 26 Feb 1797 at St. Nicholas, Nottingham, second dau of THOMAS JEKYLL RAWSON, J.P., of Nottingham and Okeover Hall, Staffordshire and his wife SARAH, youngest dau of RICHARD HAYNE, J.P., of Ashbourne Green Hall, Ashbourne. See RAWSON of SOWERBY – Burke’s Landed Gentry 1972 Edition. He was keen on coursing and twice won the cup for All England at Sudbury with his dogs Grasper and Negress. He d. 19 Jul 1859 at 13 Norfolk Street, Park Lane (Will dated 22 May 1852 and proved 24 Feb 1860) and she d. 9 Nov 1859 (Will dated 25 Jun 1852 and proved 5 Mar 1860) having had issue:
- Daniel Hayne, bapt 7 Mar 1819 at Mayfield.
- Richard, bapt 24 Aug 1821 at Mayfield.
- Daniel Knight, of Dresden, bapt 24 Nov 1822 at Mayfield, d. unmarried.
- Clement Jekyll (later Jekyll), of Guernsey, Lieutenant, 16th Lancers, bapt 24 Jan 1831 at Mayfield, bought his commission in 1849 from Captain Thomas Folliott Powell, who was married to his cousin Isabella, dau of John Douglas Cooper (see above), retired from 16th Lancers in 1852, changed his surname from Smith to Jekyll and d. unmarried 16 May 1891 in Guernsey.
- Harriett Emily, bapt 30 Jul 1820 at Mayfield, m. Baron Bodenhausen and d.s.p. in Germany.
- Sarah Caroline, bapt 30 Nov 1823 at Mayfield, d. unmarried after 1854.
- Selina, bapt 10 Apr 1825 at Mayfield, d. unmarried circa 1853.
- LOUISA FRANCES, bapt 20 Feb 1827 at Mayfield, m. 13 Jul 1852 at the residence of Her Britannic Majesty’s Minister Plenipotentiary, Dresden, Kingdom of Saxony, Rev JAMES SENIOR (later HUSEY-HUNT), M.A., Vicar of Compton Pauncefoot, Somerset 1839-97, third son of LEWIS GOODIN SENIOR (later HUSEY-HUNT) of Compton Castle and his wife ELIZABETH, youngest dau of GEORGE HUSEY, linen draper, of Salisbury, Wiltshire. - Laura Elizabeth, of 15 Ventnor Villas, Hove, Sussex, b. 16 Dec 1832, bapt 10 Feb 1833 at Mayfield, m. 16 Jan 1862 at St. George’s, Hanover Square by Rev James Senior (see above), Colonel William Egerton Todd, 81st Foot (Loyal Lincoln Volunteers), later Staff Officer of Pensioners, Chelsea Hospital, b. 15 Aug 1831 in Weymouth, second son of Colonel George Todd, Coldstream Guards, and his wife Mary Jane, fifth dau of Sir Samuel Egerton Brydges, Bt, and his wife Elizabeth, dau and sole heir of Rev William Dejoves Byrche. See BRYDGES – Burke’s Extinct and Dorman Baronetcies. He d. 14 Jul 1896 at 15 Cornwallis Road, Hastings and she d. 28 May 1914 at The Laurels, Staplehurst, Kent having had issue:
- Laura Emma Chamberlain, b. 20 Feb 1864 at 217 Brompton Road, London, m. 7 Jun 1894 (marriage dissolved) at St. Jude’s, South Kensington, Harry Craven Sneyd-Kynnersley, Lord of the Manors of Loxley and Little Bramshall, Staffordshire, third son of Clement Thomas Sneyd-Kynnersley, D.L., J.P., of Loxley Park, Staffordshire and his wife Ellen, dau of Joseph Mallaby. - Ada Drummond, of 3 Rue d’Alger, Nice, France, b. 6 Jun 1866 at Omagh, Tyrone, Ireland, m. Rev Vicars Armstrong Boyle, M.A., Vicar of Portslade and Rector of Hangleton, Sussex, eldest son of David Boyle of Dublin. He d. 5 Nov 1928, aged 77, at Casa Mare, Menton, France and was buried at Hangleton and she d.s.p. 3 Nov 1953.
