Canon Fielder Hemmans

The death of Canon Fielder Hemmans took place suddenly yesterday at Holbeach, Lincolnshire, in his 85th year. He took his degree as 29th Wrangler in 1851, and in the same year obtained the Ramsay Fellowship at St. Peter’s College, Cambridge. Canon Hemmans was ordained in 1851 with a title to the curacy of Wragby, and in 1860 was appointed to the benefice of Tetney, Horncastle, where he remained until 1872, when he became vicar of Holbeach. Bishop Christopher Wordsworth made him prebendary of Gretton in Lincoln Cathedral in the same year. He was also rural dean of East Elloe from 1872 to 1906. In spite of his advanced age, Canon Hemmans actively engaged in parochial work, and preached in his church last Sunday morning.
