Mr. Robin Buckston

Mr. Robin Henry Rowland Buckston, captain of Derbyshire County Cricket Club from 1937 to 1939 and chairman of the club from 1960 to 1966, collapsed and died at the wheel of his car near Burton on Trent yesterday. He was 58. He was in the Eton XI as a wicketkeeper and first played for Derbyshire as a batsman in 1928. He became captain of Derbyshire after they won the Championship in 1936. His father had also captained the county after the first war. Between 1939 and 1945 Buckston served in a local territorial light anti-aircraft regiment of the Royal Artillery, reaching the rank of captain. After the war he captained Derbyshire’s second XI for a short time. He was a Justice of the Peace and High Sheriff of Derbyshire in 1960.
