Major-General William Allan

Major-General William Allan, who has died at Hillside, Bidborough, Kent, at the age of 86, was the son of Alexander Allan, of Hillside, Edinburgh, and entered the Army in 1850, serving in the Crimea with the 41st, the Welsh Regiment. He fought at the Alma and Inkerman, in both assaults on the Redan, and at Sevastopol, receiving the medal with three clasps, the Turkish medal, and the Legion of Honour. He was Brigadier-General commanding the troops in Cyprus from 1890 to 1894. He married first, in 1870, a daughter of Lord Kinloch, and as his second wife Jane Husey, daughter of the Rev. James Senior, afterwards Husey-Hunt. The funeral will take place tomorrow.
