WILLIAM COSTER, yeoman, of Pitton, Wiltshire, according to the Parish Register entry for his son Henry ‘not worth by reputation £600 nor having £50 per annum’, b. circa 1666, m. 25 Jun 1694 at Salisbury Cathedral, MARY BURROUGH of Clarendon, Wiltshire. He was buried at Pitton, aged 58, on 13 Apr 1724 (Treasurer of Sarum will dated 20 Mar 1723/24 and proved 30 Jun 1724) and she was buried at Pitton on 1 Mar 1744/45 having had issue:

 

1.     John, bapt 23 Oct 1695 at Winterbourne Earls, Wiltshire, m. 29 Oct 1730 at Pitton, Joan Coster.

2.     WILLIAM, of whom presently.

3.     Ambrose, bapt 2 Jan 1705/06 at Pitton, buried at Pitton on 6 Jan 1706/07.

4.     Henry, bapt 23 Sep 1707 at Pitton, who may have had issue:

a.     William, wine cooper, of Bernards Cross, Salisbury, m. 1stly and had issue:

1.     William, clothier, of Salisbury, b. circa 1753, m. 16 Dec 1779, Catherine Shearer of the parish of St. Edmund, Salisbury and d. 1790 (Sub-Dean of Sarum will dated 16 Sep 1788 and proved 3 Aug 1790) having had issue:

a.       Elizabeth, of Demerham, Wiltshire, unmarried in 1797.

2.     Henry, organ builder, of Salisbury, b. circa 1755, m. 17 Apr 1777, Joanna Elliott of the parish of St. Thomas, Salisbury. He was buried at St. Edmund, Salisbury on 9 May 1797 (Sub-Dean of Sarum will dated 17 Feb 1797 and proved 15 Jul 1797) and she d. 1799 (Administration dated 28 Aug 1799) having had issue:

a.        John, bapt 5 Sep 1779 at Salt Lane Presbyterian Church, Salisbury.

b.       William, bapt 22 Oct 1780 at Salt Lane Presbyterian Church, Salisbury.

c.        Henry, bapt 22 Sep 1781 at Salt Lane Presbyterian Church, Salisbury.

d.       William, bapt 28 Sep 1783 at Salt Lane Presbyterian Church, Salisbury.

1.     Sarah, m. Edmund Skelton, staymaker, of Salisbury.

2.     Elizabeth, m. Thomas Deall, wheelwright, of Salisbury.

He m. 2ndly 5 Feb 1780, Mary Alderwit of the parish of St. Martin, Salisbury and d. 1788 (Sub-Dean of Sarum will dated 10 Jul 1784 and proved 23 Jul 1788).

1.     Alice, bapt 29 Jul 1697 at Winterbourne Earls, m. 29 Jan 1728/29 at St. Edmund, Salisbury, Samuel Biggs, yeoman and widower, of Clarendon Park in the parish of St. Martin, Salisbury.

2.     Mary, bapt 30 Jan 1700/01 at Winterbourne Earls, d. unmarried and was buried at Pitton on 1 Mar 1744/45.

 

WILLIAM COSTER, baker and later maltster, of Catherine Street and at the sign of the Cross Keys in the parish of St. Edmund, Salisbury, apprenticed to Thomas Langley, baker, of Salisbury in 1714, Churchwarden of St. Edmund, Salisbury in 1736, bapt 7 Dec 1698 at Winterbourne Earls, m. 31 May 1726 at St. Edmund, Salisbury, MARY, dau of JOSEPH MATON, yeoman, of Clarendon Park and his wife JANE (née KENT). See Maton Family History. He was buried at St. Edmund, Salisbury on 19 Apr 1772 (Sub-Dean of Sarum will dated 16 Apr 1765 and proved 27 May 1772) having had issue:

WILLIAM COSTER, baker, of the parish of St. Edmund, Salisbury, Churchwarden of St. Edmund, Salisbury in 1760, bapt 26 Dec 1728 at St. Edmund, Salisbury, m. 18 Apr 1757 at St. Edmund, Salisbury, SARAH, bapt 6 Nov 1732 at St. Thomas, Salisbury, dau of GEORGE ALLEN, butcher, and his wife JANE (née PITTMAN) and grand-dau of GEORGE ALLEN, butcher, who d. 1719 (Sub-Dean of Sarum will dated 20 Jun 1718 and proved 2 Nov 1719). William was buried at St. Edmund, Salisbury on 6 Feb 1772 and his wife d. 1797 (Sub-Dean of Sarum will dated 2 Jan 1797 and proved 16 Oct 1797) having had issue:

1.    JENNY, of Compton Pauncefoot, Somerset, bapt 3 May 1758 at St. Edmund, Salisbury, m. 27 Apr 1777 at St. Edmund, Salisbury, GEORGE HUSEY, linen draper, of the parish of St. Thomas, Salisbury, son of HUBERT HUSEY of Charlton Horethorne, Somerset and his wife HONOR, dau of AMOS PROWSE of South Petherton, Somerset. He d. 25 Dec 1799, aged 46, and she d. 9 Mar 1835 having had issue.

3.     Elizabeth, bapt 9 Jan 1767 at St. Edmund, Salisbury, m. 24 Jul 1794 at St. Edmund, Salisbury, William Bennett Blackmore, linen draper, of Salisbury. He d. 9 Oct 1859 in Salisbury having had issue:

a.        Henry, of Wilton.

b.       Edward, of New Alresford.

c.        Humphrey, of Salisbury.

a.        Jane, m. 28 Apr 1840 at St. Edmund, Salisbury, her first cousin once removed, Bernard Senior of Compton Pauncefoot and Lewes, Sussex, second son of Lewis Goodin Senior of Jamaica and his wife Elizabeth, youngest dau of George Husey, linen draper, of Salisbury.
